Anna Dixon, the member of Parliament for Shipley, has stated that the new Labour government will protect and support her constituency’s local pubs.

Speaking on BBC Politics North, the new MP said the government will be taking a range of actions that will benefit community high streets and pubs in areas like Shipley.

Ms Dixon said: “The things when I go to the local pubs and talk to the local owners, the things that are really hitting them are energy prices, and we’re gonna be tackling that, bringing down energy bills.

“It is business rates, and we’re committed to a reform of business rates.

“And they are at the centre of our high streets and town centres, and we know we’ve got to tackle anti-social behaviour to make it safer for people to go out on an evening and enjoy the pubs.”

“But, we do have this option as well - one of our pubs in Shipley is now a community-run pub, the Hullabaloo, so I think it is also a really great option, and as a government, we want to make it easier for communities to take over important assets like pubs.”
