Anna Dixon MP presents an award at her business meet-up

Anna Dixon MP for Shipley, on Friday, brought together local businesses from across her constituency to discuss Government plans to support businesses by creating a workforce ready for the future.

The event took place at Shipley College and was attended by more than a dozen community business leaders from various industries including technology, retail, manufacturing, and social care.

Anna Dixon led the discussion focused on how the Labour Government is investing in skills training through the creation of Skills England. She also spoke about her efforts to secure additional investment in further education to help fill skills gaps in the workforce.

After the business meet-up, the MP stated, “The Shipley constituency is home to many talented business people and innovative local businesses. It was great to gather so many of them here today at Shipley College to discuss the Labour Government’s plans for supporting local businesses and to listen to what more we can do to help them grow.

“I want to thank everyone who attended today. It is always valuable to me to engage with our local businesses, so I can represent their interests as effectively as possible in Parliament., This Labour Government’s industrial strategy lays the platform for how we ensure communities like ours thrive.

“I would also like to thank everyone at Shipley College for hosting us today. Just last week, I held a debate in Parliament, making the case for the Government to increase support for further education colleges across the country.

“Businesses cannot prosper without a skilled workforce, and it is great that we have a brilliant institution like Shipley College in our area. I encourage all local businesses to work with the College to ensure the skills and training offered meet their needs for the future.”

A spokesperson for Shipley College said: "We were delighted that Anna chose to hold her business breakfast at Shipley College.

“It was a great opportunity to show local employers how teaching and learning is changing with our Immersive classroom environments, and to share with them the many different ways in which employers can support in the skills development of their future workforce."
