Anna Dixon MP for Shipley constituency, has today stood up for the farmers of her local area and highlighted the over £5 billion of funding that the new Labour government plans to invest in the industry.

While speaking in the House of Commons, the Member of Parliament also raised the work that the new administration is doing to best support tenant farmers.

In the debate on Farming and Inheritance Tax, Ms Dixon said: “I backed British farming ahead of the general election, and I back the farmers in my constituency.

“I am proud to sit on these Benches with a Labour Government who are backing British farmers with an investment of £5 billion in the recent Budget. Does my hon.

“Friend agree that it is absolutely essential that we make sure that the money gets into the pockets of our farmers? My farmers complain about the delays that they experienced when the Conservative party was in power.”

In response, James Murray, the Exchequer Secretary, said: “My hon. Friend is absolutely right to draw attention to the mismanagement under the previous Government and to how important it is that, through the commitments we made in the Budget on the farming budget over the next two years, we support farmers across the country as evidence of our steadfast support.”
