Anna Dixon MP for Shipley constituency, raised concerns expressed to her by local farmers in the parliamentary debate on the Budget’s impact on farming.
The newly elected MP specifically raised the issue of the previous Conservative government’s poor implementation of a transition payment scheme.
This Conservative failure has led to huge delays in payments for farmers in Shipley constituency.
Speaking to Daniel Zeichner MP, the Minister for Food Security and Rural Affairs, in Parliament, Anna Dixon said: “Farmers in my constituency have told me that they are struggling, owing to the abysmal implementation of a transition payment scheme by the last Government.
“There have been huge delays in receiving payments, and they have been caught up in bureaucracy.
“Will the Minister reassure me, and those farmers in my constituency, that this Government are fixing those problems and speeding up payments to our farmers?”
Daniel Zeichner MP replied:
“I can give my hon. Friend that assurance.”
