Anna Dixon MP for Shipley, has today shared her “delight” that two schools in her constituency will be part of the first wave of the new government's rollout of free primary school breakfast clubs.
Baildon Glen Primary School and Beckfoot Priestthorpe Primary School in Bingley will be among the first 750 schools nationwide to offer a new free breakfast club, which will launch this April.
Students attending these schools will receive a free breakfast daily and an additional 30 minutes of childcare in the morning. This government estimates these measures will save parents up to £450 per year.
The breakfast clubs are part of a wider set of measures aimed at reducing the cost of living for working families, including a commitment to lower uniform costs by capping the price of branded items.
Universal free breakfast clubs are a key component of Labour's Plan for Change. They aim to remove barriers to opportunity by ensuring that every child starts the school day ready to learn. Research indicates that these clubs have a lasting positive impact on children's behaviour, attendance, and academic performance.
Anna Dixon MP expressed her enthusiasm about the rollout of the free breakfast clubs, stating: "I am absolutely delighted that two schools in the Shipley constituency have been selected as some of the first to benefit from Labour's free breakfast club.
“It’s a testament to both the school and the Labour government’s dedication to getting
children school-ready so they are able to improve their attendance, attainment and
wellbeing, as well as improving the household finances of local families.
“Since being elected MP for the Shipley constituency, I have visited numerous local schools and met with dozens of parents on the doorstep, and I understand first-hand the positive impact this will have for hardworking parents across our local area.
“Through our Plan for Change, this Labour government is expanding parents' employment options and improving life chances for children.”
