Anna Dixon with the parents of LGBT+ children

Anna Dixon, the Member of Parliament for Shipley, hosted an event this week at the Palace of Westminster for parents of LGBTQ+ children to discuss the challenges their families face.

Timed to coincide with LGBT History Month, the event was attended by volunteers from FFLAG, a charity dedicated to supporting families and their LGBTQ+ children. Among the attendees was a parent from the Shipley constituency.

The meeting provided an opportunity for attendees to speak directly with Ms Dixon and event co-host Nadia Whittome, MP for Nottingham East, and other peers and MPs about the rights of their youngsters, the fear that trans children face in schools and the lack of health care and support they are faced with.

The parents in attendance at Anna Dixon’s event told her their personal stories about the experiences of their children and their hopes for progressing the rights of LGBT+ individuals.

Speaking on social media after the event, Anna Dixon MP said: "Yesterday, Nadia Whittome and I had the pleasure of welcoming volunteers from FFLAG, including Shipley constituent Jacqui, to Westminster.

"We heard directly from the parents of LGBT+ children about the challenges they face, the fear that trans children feel in schools, and the difficulties they face accessing health care and support.

"I am always proud to stand in support of the LGBT+ community."
