Shipley MP Anna Dixon has expressed her support for a local campaign aimed at raising funds for the community purchase of Goit Stock Wood in her constituency.

The campaign, led by the newly registered charity Friends of Goit Stock Wood, is seeking to raise £195,000 to acquire the 70-acre ancient woodland and waterfall site located in Harden, near Bingley.

The group believes that by placing the woodland into community ownership, they can inspire visitors to learn about nature and protect the location for generations to come.

Goit Stock Wood was put on the market by its current owners in September 2023, but it has not yet been sold. It is currently listed as an Asset of Community Value, which gives time for local groups to get together the funds required to purchase it. This period will end in September, meaning that supporters have only a few weeks left to make their contribution to the purchase.

Anna Dixon MP said: “Stock Wood is a hidden gem and one of the loveliest natural beauty spots in the Shipley constituency. It is absolutely right that it should be owned by the local community.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to secure the future of the woodland and waterfall and ensure that they are protected and preserved for everyone to enjoy and appreciate for generations to come.

“I would like to thank everyone involved with the Friends of Goit Stock Wood for their hard work on this campaign. As the local Member of Parliament, I will do everything I can to promote and support this tremendous fundraising effort.

“I strongly encourage anyone who can to get involved with this campaign and show their support for the community ownership of Goit Stock Wood.”

Tom Wood, a Harden resident and one of the founders of the Friends of Goit Stock Wood, said: “We’re very pleased to have the support of our local MP and other elected representatives, alongside the many residents and visitors who have contributed to the campaign and provided kind words of encouragement.

“It goes to show how special Goit Stock Wood is to so many people, and how important it is to retain it for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to working with Anna Dixon MP to ensure that this stunning piece of her constituency is preserved for the future.”
