Anna Dixon MP for Shipley, has today announced that she will be working closely with Bradford Council leaders to deliver much-needed improvements to a Windhill play park.

Upgrades to the playground within Windhill Recreation Ground will be funded by the £1.5 million from the Labour Government’s Pride in Place fund, which the council successfully secured for community revitalisation across the Bradford District.

Anna Dixon MP said she has ensured that a “significant” portion of the funding will be spent in the Shipley constituency, with the play park being the first of several projects to be funded in the coming months.

Ms Dixon, who recently visited the Windhill Recreation Ground, along with Council Leader Susan Hinchcliffe and local Windhill and Wrose Councillor Liz Rowe, said: “After 14 years of cuts to government investment in our local area, and across the North of England more broadly, under various Conservative Governments, this just goes to show what a difference a Labour Government makes to communities like ours, including here in Windhill.

“In just the last year, we have seen the Labour Government announce a rework of the local government funding formula, which will greatly benefit Bradford, a massive funding for Northern Powerhouse Rail to give us the modern transport network we deserve, and now this additional investment in my constituency.

“I am incredibly proud to have worked closely with Bradford Council to have secured this money. I have been pressing the government extensively on this in recent months, so I am delighted to see those efforts come to fruition.”

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, who represents the Windhill and Wrose Ward, as well as holding the Regeneration, Planning and Transport Portfolio at Bradford Council, said: “Play parks are so important for communities across the Bradford District, and it is no different here in Windhill and Wrose.

“This particular project is one we’ve been wanting to move forward with for a significant period of time, so I am delighted the council will now be working with the local MP Anna Dixon to see it delivered”.

The Shipley MP has also announced that she has launched an online survey for Shipley constituents to share their priorities for local investment.

Dixon added: “I want to hear from residents across the Shipley constituency about what improvements they would like to see in their local area.

“Whether it’s parks, community centres, high streets, or anything else, I encourage all constituents to fill out my survey and tell me what you think.”
