Shipley MP Anna Dixon said she is “extremely proud” after the success of her ‘Walk for Carers’ last weekend, which brought together dozens of local people to raise money for unpaid carers.
The fundraiser, which consisted of three simultaneous sponsored walks across the Shipley constituency, managed to raise hundreds of pounds for Bradford-based charity Carers’ Resource.
The walks, which began in Baildon, Bingley and Burley-in-Wharfedale, respectively, were supported by the local Walkers are Welcome groups in each location, as well as the University of Bradford and Bradford City of Culture.
The walks all converged at the Skills Kitchen in Saltaire, a local organisation that provides cooking and culinary training for people with learning disabilities, to celebrate its completion.
Anna Dixon MP, who organised the event, said after the walk's conclusion: “I am thrilled about the success of our ‘Walk for Carers 2025’ and the number of local people who came to get involved. They are an organisation that does incredible work by providing practical and emotional support to unpaid carers of all ages.
“I cannot thank everyone enough who participated in today’s walk and those who donated to our fundraising page. Your support is contributing to an amazing cause.
“I feel extremely proud, especially since I have dedicated my career to improving outcomes for carers and elderly individuals across the country. I have firsthand experience of the incredible love that unpaid carers of all ages give to family members who need care and support.
“They are the unsung heroes of our country. I will continue to do everything I can, both locally and on the national political stage, to support unpaid carers as effectively as possible.
“I’d also like to thank the University of Bradford, Bradford 2025 and Skills Kitchen for all their support.
“Today was a brilliant day and really showed off the amazing community spirit that makes the Shipley constituency such a wonderful and special place.”
