Anna Dixon MP for the Shipley constituency, has today urged the new Labour government to launch a review of the regulations regarding the antisocial use of fireworks.

Speaking in a debate on the sale and use of Fireworks, Ms Dixon shared the concerns her constituents have expressed to her about the late-night, disruptive and illegal use of the pyrotechnic devices in her local area.

The Member of Parliament continued her proactivity on this important issue, having also written to the Home Secretary about potential changes to fireworks legislation in recent months.

Interjecting in Westminster Hall, Anna Dixon said to Robbie Moore MP for Keighley and Ilkley: “I thank the hon. Gentlemen for introducing this really important debate. Like his constituents, mine next door in Shipley have raised concerns about antisocial fireworks.

“Under the last Labour Government, the Fireworks Act 2003 and the Fireworks Regulations 2004 were introduced to restrict the antisocial use of fireworks; since then, there has been very little action.

“Does the hon. Gentleman agree that a review to tighten up the regulations is long overdue?”
