The member of Parliament for Shipley today spoke in the House of Commons and asked the government for assurances about funding the Bingley Swimming Pool project ahead of tomorrow's budget.
Anna Dixon, speaking to Alex Norris, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Democracy and Local Growth, also raised the fact that capital projects such as the one in Bingley have been put at risk only due to Conservative mismanagement of the economy.
Following the new Labour government's discovery of a £22 Billion hole in the UK’s finances, all Levelling Up projects that had yet to progress beyond Stage 2 were frozen.
The project's future will not be confirmed until the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, delivers the budget in Parliament tomorrow.
Anna Dixon said: “Recent NAO reports have revealed the extent of Tory economic mismanagement over the past 14 years.
“This has put capital projects like Bingley Pool in my constituency at risk.
“As a member of the Public Accounts Committee, I will ensure taxpayers' money delivers value.
“So, Mister Speaker, will the minister assure me and my constituents that tomorrow's budget will be based on an honest assessment of the public finances so this government can deliver on its promises?”
Alex Norris MP replied: “I thank the hon. Member for her question and can confirm that the budget tomorrow will be an honest assessment of the mess left to this country by the party opposite.
“But crucially, our plans for clearing up the mess and then delivering the change we promised to.”
