The Member of Parliament for Shipley constituency has today reaffirmed her belief that any new energy infrastructure must bring benefits to it’s local community.

Ms Dixon, speaking at a Westminster Hall debate on the subject, raised the issue due to proposed plans to construct a battery energy storage system in her constituency near Cullingworth.

The MP stated that she is proud to be part of a government that has worked to found GB Energy, which will give the UK long-term energy security.

Speaking to Angus MacDonald MP, Anna Dixon said:

“I was reassured in the House just last week that communities like mine in Cullingworth, where we are looking at proposals to host-associated infrastructure.

“And I would really like to know whether he agrees with me that these sorts of benefits should not just be for energy generation but also for the associated infrastructure like battery storage; community benefits should also come from these projects?”

In response, The Liberal Democrat MP replied:

“I wholeheartedly agree, and it should be the same for the transmission lines and for the interceptors for pump storage and battery - really the whole infrastructure of producing renewables.

“So I completely agree with that.”
